Hope everyone is well and good. First let me apologize for taking so long to get back with everyone.
I attended the 52nd Annual RRCA National Convention, which was held in Lakeland Florida, April 21-25. It was very pretty with lots of beautiful weather, and the Convention was awesome. I would like to encourage anyone that could possibly attend a convention to do so.
The convention was very informative, and the Race the Lakes 5K and 10K were great. You could run both the 5K and 10K if you wanted, and also participate in group runs on mornings when we didn’t race. Anytime you can go on a trip and have all the running you could want is an awesome trip in my book.
OK enough of that, let’s get down to business:
Weight Watchers and RRCA are partnering to bring us a Walk –It-Day 5K challenge on June 6th, 2010. A few select RRCA clubs are hosting these events across the country, and the idea is for participating clubs to hold a safe, low-key, 5K walk. Each club may use this as a way to promote and reach out to walkers and new runners, and to attract new members. Participating clubs will be eligible to receive a $1,000.00 sponsorship provided by Weight Watcher's and administered by RRCA. Most likely this will be an ongoing event and expanded next year, so please stay tuned and consider hosting one of these events in 2011. RRCA is also partnering with DISNEY'S ENDURANCE SERIES: RRCA clubs will receive special perks for participating in Disney's Endurance Series Events, 2010-2011. Some benefits include $5.00 discounts on 5K, half marathon, and marathon race entries and two guaranteed (paid) race entries for each race. The RRCA has updated the logo, along with the RRCA membership logo. These can be seen at www.rrca.org/services/rrca-branding/. Please replace the old logo on club websites, newsletters etc, with this new one.
The 53rd RRCA NATIONAL CONVENTION will be held in FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA, May 12-15, 2011, and will be held in conjunction with the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon. Please make plans to attend, you will not be disappointed.
Also let me add that when things calm down around my house, (prom, graduation, going off to college) I would like to come to one of your club races and personally meet with all my club leaders. I will be calling in the near future to set this up.
