Mellow Mushroom Pub Run

No matter what you are looking for in terms of getting a run in, BGRR has a group run that should help you leg out those miles any day of the week.

Any well rounded training program mixes in a variety of disciplines. We have runs that work for someone new to running with our short/easy runs during the work week while also providing track and tempo workouts that more experienced runners can incorporate into their training routines.

And if you're getting tired of battling traffic, pounding the pavement relentlessly day in and day out, and simply tired of seeing the same sights every day, we've got a couple group runs every week that take running back to its roots. Group runs down in the Lost River Cave nature trails, Low Hollow single track trail, as well as, a weekend trip up to Mammoth Cave National Park really help re-energize the soul and get people to stop looking at their watches for once!

We hope the variety of runs provide plenty of opportunities to train with like minded individuals as well as foster a strong community for runners of all abilities to lean on.

Weekly Schedule

 

Sunday

Afternoon Trail Run @ 2 pm (times can vary, watch Twitter/FB account for info each Sunday)

group_mammothRun "easy" miles with friends through the scenic and challenging trails of Mammoth Cave National Park. Call or text 270-392-8088 (P.J. Pethalsky) or 270-303-2617 (David Haynes) in advance to verify time and carpool location. During the spring/summer we typically try to leave BG around 1 pm and be at the trailhead at 2 pm to begin running. Trails include the Bike & Hike Trail (8.5 miles one way), Big Hollow North & South Trails (better than 10 miles) and a 6-mile loop that spans around the Visitor Center and Lodge.


Monday

Workouts with Bonita Paul

group_feedbackOne of Bowling Green's best long distance atheletes, Bonita Paul, has developed a core strengthening workout that aids runners and non-runners alike. All you need to bring is a yoga mat, a towel, water, and get ready to sweat. Workouts last approximately an hour and cost $7 per session or $25 for a month. The group meets at the Kummer/Little Rec Center on 333 College Street in Bowling Green, KY at 6:30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.


Tuesday

Speedwork at BGHS Track @ 6 am

We'll continue with these workouts into the fall so long as the temperatures remain comfortable. Once the temps drop to the 40's for highs, we'll wind this down for the season and pick it back up in the spring officially. That doesn't mean a handful of people won't continue to train on the track in the off season, but we won't promote it seeing as we have no idea who will be showing up consistently.

For now, we meet at 6 am and decide between us what kind of speed workout everyone is interested in. Several people also come, but do their own individually tailored workout. No problems with that approach at all. Workouts last between 45 to 60 minutes.

Wednesday

Thursday

Weekly Pub Run @ 6:00 pm

group_pubrunEasily the biggest social event we have each and every week. We meet at a different restaurant each month a little before 6:00 pm and then head out on a 3 to 4 mile easy run. Then return to the restaurant to enjoy some down time with your running friends. Please visit the Facebook page or Twitter feed for the location for that week. We also publish the pub rotation in the club newsletter.


Friday

Saturday

Trax Running Group Long Runs @ 8 am

group_longThe group typically meets at the Trax Running store a little before 8:00 a.m. You can pair up with others for your long run, no matter your average pace. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to join this group on Saturday mornings.
